The greatest of the Azhvars, he is regarded as an incarnation of Senai Mudaliar or Visvaksena (chief of the Lord's hosts). His real name was Maran and he is also known as Sathakopan and Parankusan. His hymnal works are Tiruviruttam, Tiruvasiriyam, Periva Tiruvantadiand Tiruvaymozhi. Vedantadesika describes the Tiruvayn;nzhi as "Dramirjopanisad". Nammazhvar's songs are among the chief sources of the Vaisnava siddhanta. |
