Great Pallava ruler (7th century). He has an enduring place in the history of Indian architecture. He excavated temples from living rock and for his great interest in art earned the title of "Vicitracitta". His son Narasimhavarman I took up his architectural work at Mamallapuram. Mahendravarman I is also remembered for his two Sanskrit plays (prahasanas or comedies), Mattavilasam and Bhagavadajjukam. |
