A celebrated Saiva saint poet whose hymns are included in the Tevaram (qv). It was under his influance that the Pallava king Mahendravarman II was brought back to the Saiva faith from Jainism. As a boy Appar himself had embraced Jainism and it was his sister Tilakavati who was responsible for his return to the Saiva fold. |
