Short Description: One of the great figures of Southern Saivism. He is believed to have performed a number of miracles and played a notable role in restoring the glory of Vedic religion.
Long Description: One of the great figures of Southern Saivism, he is believed to have been blessed with jnana by Amba herself who, it is said, suckled him as a child. His compositions form part of the Tevaram (qv) and, together with those of Appar and Sundarar, constitute the first seven works of the Tirumurai which to the Saivas of Tamil Nadu is almost as sacred as the Vedas. Jnanasarnbandhar, who is believed to have performed a number of miracles, played a notable role in restoring the glory of the Vedic religion, especially in the South.
